Bad News…. or Opportunity?

From http://www.jjsjava.com:

DUE TO EXTENDED FAMILY ILLNESS, JJ’S WILL BE CLOSING EFFECTIVE JULY 28TH, 2004.

JJ’S BUSINESS IS FOR SALE (at a very reasonable price) AND/OR SPACE IS AVAILABLE FOR LEASE.

Thus ends the brief lifespan of Shrewsbury’s one and only real coffeehouse. It was a mixed-bag of a place. The location was great, the top floor of a beautiful renovated factory building in downtown Shrewsbury, a couple minute’s walk from our house. On the other hand, the coffee was lousy, the service slow, and they tended to have crappy CCM playing over the stereo. But for all that, it was the only place to hang out, and occasionally catch live music, at 10PM on a Saturday night.

So, those who know me well have probably already heard the gears turning in my head. One of my dreams has always been to run a coffeehouse. And god knows I’ve fantasized what I’d do with the space they have. On the other hand, I have no business acumen, no capital, and precious little spare time.

Argh. Why couldn’t this opportunity have waited a few years?

  1. The govt. can give out small business loans to people with decent credit sometimes just for the asking. Take on a business partner or two, and it’s doable.

    1. Here here! …only there, there *points down the hill to the Factory*

    2. Do you have any leads to business grants?

      Anti-drug program grants?

      Etc?

      1. I don’t offhand, but doing a net search for “government small business loans” would probably turn up a plethora.

  2. Go for it bro….

And look to see if there are any development grants. Let Stacey own the business and her employ you; thus it becomes a woman owned business and that opens the doors to tax discounts, grants, etc.

    😉

    You got the brain…

Interest rates are low….so you can probably take out a business loan. Doesn’t sound like much work is needed for the place (besides finding a new coffee bean supplier). Use the loan to pay the operating costs for the first several months and any new supplies, advertising.

    ((((HUGS)))

    1. Stacey’s credit is fershit. Nice idea though.

  3. Sometimes you have to jump on an opportunity when it presents itself.
