Good News

In the interests of inserting a little positivity into the public discourse, I offer the folowing items.

  • Yasser Arrafat, corrupt powermonger and one of the chief roadblocks to peace in the middle east, is either dead or dying.  His power is already being transferred away from him, and Palestinians are clamoring for a more respectable, accountable government.  I am not one to take joy in anyone’s death, but I am happy for the Israeli and Palestinian people that their mutual dreams of peace are perhaps a step closer to realization.
  • Attorney General John Ashcroft is expected to resign before the president’s inauguration.
  • For those of us in the northeast, at least, this has been the most beautiful Autumn in years.  My heart is lifted every morning that I drive to work to see the magnificent fall foliage still clinging to the trees, or drifting in brilliant showers across the highway.
  • Oil is getting cheaper.
  • American jobs grew at twice the rate predicted in October.
  • Scientists have perfected a method of delivering cancer treatment directly to tumors, without harming healthy tissue.
  • Fritz Hollings, willing tool of the entertainment industry, is no longer a US senator.
  • I slept with my arms around a beautiful woman last night, and it felt as good as it did the first time.

My life goes on in endless song
above earth’s lamentations,
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
that hails a new creation.

Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear it’s music ringing,
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

While though the tempest loudly roars,
I hear the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness ’round me close,
songs in the night it giveth.

No storm can shake my inmost calm,
while to that rock I’m clinging.
Since love is lord of heaven and earth
how can I keep from singing?

When tyrants tremble in their fear
and hear their death knell ringing,
when friends rejoice both far and near
how can I keep from singing?

In prison cell and dungeon vile
our thoughts to them are winging,
when friends by shame are undefiled
how can I keep from singing?

  1. Yes, you were always one to see the positive side. *sigh*

No word from you yet on my radical post, either. *sly grin*

    1. There’s nothing radical about that post šŸ˜›

    2. Doesn’t Enya sing this?

  2. Scientists have perfected a method of delivering cancer treatment directly to tumors, without harming healthy tissue.
I saw a little news title thing about that but I hadn’t seen anything else yet. One of my teachers at school is working on that same type of research.

  3. Gorgeous post. Thankyou.

  4. I love that hymn you put in your post. We sing it fairly often sunday mornings. If you ever want to visit, please come down, 11am sundays, downtown lancaster. and then we could go to lunch or whatever. the pastor is from south africa and took active part in the apartheid struggle, which adds some very refreshing reality viewpoint to his messages. after having been involved with a fairly large number of ‘churches’ etc. I can say that this one has about the best ratio I have seen of the real, good things that such services can offer and the minimum of the negative, worthless elements that they are usually clogged with and cluttered by. all welcome, in reality, jewish or otherwise ;), not just saying so, very welcome to visit anytime, call me anytime about that or about anything else ~

  5. As someone who knows everything about cancer treatment due to the fact that my family tried everything to save my dad but to no avail…
There should be some specification made—
There are two types of stem cells…1. That harvested from a fetus/other fetal stuff 2. Stem cells that are harvested from an adult…and for the life of me and due to my pounding headache, I can NOT remember from where. Bone marrow?
Anyway, it is the second type that seems to help those with cancer. I’m fully opposed to using parts of aborted fetuses for anything, but the stem cells used in cancer (from my research) are not from that source…..
