I’m going to be doing some upkeep on this LJ account. This means trimming my “friends” list and group subscriptions. There are a couple of reasons for this. The first and biggest is that I’ve decided to partition my online personas. In a perfect world I would be completely transparent about every facet of my life here. However in this world, I have children, family, and employers who are likely to stumble across this journal, if they haven’t already. By choosing to use my real name on here, I’ve ensured that anyone looking me up will quickly find this journal. And since I have committed to making this an all-public journal, I don’t have the fig leaf of “friends-locked” or “grouped” entries to hide behind. So from now on this will be my PG-13 (or at most R) -rated journal.
The second and smaller reason is that my “friends” list has gotten rather large and unwieldy, with a fair amount of journals that are either defunct or are by people I don’t really know or talk to at all.
What this means for you, the reader: absolutely nothing, most likely. This is not where you tell me that you want to stay on my friends list. I have said it before: I consider the “Friends” list to be nothing more than an aggregation list, a list of the journals I feel like reading every day. Being on it does not make you my friend, nor does absence from it mean you are not my friend. Furthermore, since this is a public-only journal, being taken off of my friends list will have absolutely no effect on your being able to read or comment on my posts. All of my posts on this journal will remain public, for anyone in the world to read.
If you would like to be notified if and when I create any other, private personas, let me know in a comment and I’ll get in touch with you privately when that happens.
Any questions, feel free to comment.
