If the House committee’s approach carries the day, there won’t be 275 more strip-search machines in our nation’s airports. No word on whether the committee will defund the operations of existing strip-search machines.
See, this is the awesome thing about divided government. You can bet that if the Republicans were fully in power it would be a Republican president requesting funding of new 4th-amendment negation devices, and a Republican congress rubber-stamping it. But since our government is divided, the opposition party is using popular distaste for treating travelers like inmates as an excuse to stick a finger in the eye of the incumbent. And that’s good enough for me.
