Sick

It’s officially my turn. Sore throat, fever, kinda achy and generally bleh.

I’ll probably be spending most of the day lying in bed, reading or listening to the CD recording of the Odyssey I bought yesterday (unabridged! 11 CDs!). I’ll be leaving IM on, so feel free to entertain me.

  1. Ahhh yes, something similar going on over here. Fever, dizziness, aches, mild nausea, not too much in the way of upper respiratory symptoms though…

    yay fall.

  2. I’m telling you…

Garlic Bagel Bomb… (with yoghurt later on..) coca-cola… lots of hot tea and water… a hot bath… and zinc tablets… and sleep, of course..

basically some natural anti-biotics and flushing the system..

I wuv you to pieces and I think it’s awesome that you’re giving advice to Mr. Sicko.

      But.

Nix the bagel, the cheese, the peanut butter and the coke, particularly from a can! Bagel & cheese are too phlegm/mucus-producing to manage during an illness that very well may be bronchitis/sinusitis. Peanut butter is just generally hard for the body to handle during illness. And the coke! Ay! No no no no no! If the high fructose corn syrup alone isn’t bad enough, then there’s the caramel color and the caffeine.. and then there’s the issue of the can made from a substance (aluminum) which has been linked to alzheimer’s. Oy!

You know I’m just pickin’ on ya, right? I hope.

        Well…
the garlic bagel bombs work really awesomely for us… but I have no problem with a different delivery mode for the garlic… this has just worked for us.. (and we’re in Wisconsin.. so you have to have cheese on it.. 😉 )

as for the Coke… we swear by it for upset stomachs and generally as a way of getting elektrolytes back in.. (yes.. gatorade works too.. but it is often too sweet for me, whereas coke–which I generally only drink when I’m sick–is more acidic.. which I like..)

And caffeine is a diuretic.. which will help you flush out your fluids.. but I do admit that for every caffeinated drink you have.. you should have at least twice as much water in order to rehydrate yourself…

Only thing I would really disagree about is the aluminum.. Yes.. studies done of the brains of deceased patients who had alzheimers did have significantly more aluminum in them.. but that is about all they know.. There is actually no evidence that it was the aluminum that caused the Alzheimers.. in fact, assuming that most people consume about the same amount of aluminum–it is rather more likely that the accumulation of aluminum in the brain is a result of the disease.. i.e. Alzheimer’s inhibits the body’s ability to remove aluminum…

Anyway.. Make that boi get better! ;)))

and I know you’re just picking on me.. :)))

They actually used to prescribe coke syrup for upset stomachas, I’m told they still do. My mom always gave me flat coke when I was tummy sick when I was little, which was very veryy frequently.

Interesting. And while not conclusive, it still gives me reason to steer clear of aluminum intake as far as I am able. I’m not aware of the benefit of aluminum to the body.

The aluminum is a non-issue. Coke cans are coated with plastic on the inside because otherwise the highly acidic soda would destroy the aluminum.
